In collaboration with the City of New York Parks Department landscape architects, a timeline illustrating the rich history of Union Square was created. Many panel images are appropriated from earlier artists who depicted events in the square, while others reference the past, including a panel celebrating Union Square as the former home of many of NYC’s theatres and concert halls. The timeline consists of twenty bronze panels inset into a block-long ellipse of bluestone pavers with inscribed dates.
In this photo you can see the bronzes bright and fresh right after they have been cast and polished on the left.
On the right see how years and many footsteps have added a natural patina to the finish.
